For many years people came to my salon with problems that I felt were best tackled from within.
I spent a long time finding the best solution to do so and finally discovered Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) in the 1990s. Since then, I have had increasing numbers of clients requesting this treatment.
MLD was developed by Dr Emil Vodder and his wife Estrid, in the 1930’s in France, working as health practitioners treating patients with chronic conditions and swollen lymph nodes. As these patients consistently improved when slow rhythmical pumping movements were administered over the lymphatic areas, their health and vitality improved. The Dr Vodder technique was born and researched further to include networks and pathways of lymphatics, refined techniques and a polished method of administration. This is the original MLD which is considered the lightest technique, which means it can be used for recent post surgical or for painful lymphoedema patients.
MLD is an extremely gentle specialised skin movement achieved through a rhythmic pumping action over the skin; using no oils, it stimulates movement of the lymph within the lymphatic capillaries and vessels, it helps to clear waste products and excess fluid from the body and the extra cellular matrix between the cells. As the lymph system is also part of the immune system, improved health and increased energy is one of the most important benefits of MLD techniques.
This is now an accepted technique in the medical and holistic therapy setting, and we work closely with medical teams if needed.
